Sanibel and Captiva Islands are a secluded paradise
where spectacular natural beauty surrounds you. Brush
away the beach sand and you will find layers of environmental,
historical and cultural depth. The city of Sanibel was
founded in 1974, and is home to 5,800 year-round residents.
Sanibel Island's population swells to over 22,000 during
"season", which is from late December to the
end of April. Sanibel island is a nature lover's dream
come true. Over half of Sanibel island's 12,000 acres
have been conserved. The J.N. "Ding" Darling
National Wildlife Refuge is host to many exotic species
of plants and wildlife. C.R.O.W. (Care and Rehabilitation
of Wildlife) takes in injured and abandoned wildlife
and nurtures them to be released back into the wild.
The Conservation Foundation Nature Center and Bailey
Matthews Shell Museum offers hands-on exhibits
and walking trails to explore. Sanibel Island has over
26 miles of bike paths, 20 miles of sugar white sandy
beaches, world renowned shelling, a historic lighthouse,
tennis, golf, fishing, boating, live theater, world
class restaurants, art galleries and plenty of specialty
shops and boutiques, there is always plenty to do. Indulge
